Mr Prescott says they will be perfectly safe They will simply hang on grit their teeth if they are men scream if they are women try to imagine they are having a good time and let the laws of physics do the rest Under the laws of centrifugal motion the inventor says the car cannot leave the rails should it try to Just give it enough of an impetus before it enters the loop and it will make the entire revolution quickly and safely In fact the passengers will make the somersault in the car in so sudden a manner that they will scarcely realize it of the preceding Council ehall govern this re Immense Price Sometimes Paid rious Collectors The rarest stamp in the world is the penny Mauritius stamp of 1847 Peckit of London last year paid $4840 for one The only other one known to be in existence is in the British Museum The entire issue was burned by accident after a few used on invitat-tions to an official ball Four thousand four hundred dollars was the next highest price for a stamp that amount being exchanged for a blue one issued by the postmaster at Baltimore before the government took charge of all stamp businessThere are but two more of these printed on white paper and worth $2000 each It was the custom during the civil war for southern postmasters to issue stamps on their own responsibility to pay their own salaries and expenses These bring from $1000 to $1500 Hawaiian stamps of 1851 the first issue ever printed are worth $2500 each A mistake in printing makes the United States stamps of 1869 in 15 24 30 and 90 cent denominations worth $150 to $500 each There is no end of stamp collecting and every year some government practice opens a new field Cheap little countries change their designs sometimes twice in the course of a single year This naturally creates a scarcity of those particular issues and the engraving company which printed the original stamps for nothing gets the benefit The Spanish war has also set collectors hustling to secure complete sets As may be remembered stamps with the letters imprinted were the first-war tax stamps supplied A later use of postage stamps of interest to collectors Is the introduction of the United States postal service Into Cuba and Porto Rico Our 1 and 2 cent stamps had across their face to serve until plates could be prepared and some of these stamps are already worth $2 each Phllatelism is a fad that is constantly growing and the natural competition thus aroused has done much to raise the prices of all stamps within the last few years Cincinnati Enquirer 1 Official Council Proceedings
