apartments Good Diet is Very Important Diet Expert Advises on Checking Meals Each Day We can be hungry without realizing it 'Hungry' in this case means that the food we eat does not make for good health even though it may satisfy our appetites" explains Mary Brady extension nutritionist the University of Wisconsin And studies show that this is exactly the kind of diet that many in this country are using So the wise homemaker checks her meals every day to be sure that she is including enough of the foods that make for good nutrition Miss Brady suggests that one of the main foods to watch is milk Children and pregnant and nursing women she says need one quart every day while the grown mem- bers of the family should have at least a pint Good meals also include four to five servings of vegetables and fruits every day Of these servings it is "wise to have one tomatoes or oranges or grape fruit another potatoes and a third leafy green or yellow vegetables Then make up the total number of servings we add three to five helpings of other vegetables each week and one daily serving of some fruit other than oranges or other cifrus kind When it comes to eggs Miss Brady recommends four or five a week for young children and if possible one every day Grown folks need at least two or three week Also a "top-notch" diet includes meat fish or poultry every day if possible Some whole grain cereal breakfast food should appear on the menu every day This is especially important for children "Serve bread and butter at every meal" continues Miss Brady "And whenever possible choose bread made of whole grain flour" We can wisely plan to have dessert once a day and sometimes twice Incidentally these desserts may include part of the protective foods such as milk eggs and fruit that we need for the day Even water is considered as part of a good diet Nutritionists suggest six or eight glasses a day CLEAOAHG Suede pumps Sandals in Brown and Black and liiiir is $295 O'Conner Dorothy Dough Rises Depends on Yeast Used The speed with which bread dough rises depends on more than the amount of yeast used and the temperature of the room "The other ingredients we use in our bread have a good deal to do with the rising of the dough" explains Mary Brady extension nutritionist at the University of Wisconsin "The amount of sugar for example affects the rising" The yeast needs sugar in order to help make the gas that causes the dough to rise explains the state nutritionist All wheat flours it seems contain some sugar but they don't have enough to make the dough as light as we like So we i add sugar to the mixture However we must be caremi about tne amount we add because too much will slow down the rising instead of speeding it up That's one reason our very sweet doughs rise more slowly than the plain ones About one tablespoon of sugar for each cup of liquid or for each pound of flour is the amount we ordinarily use in plain bread Swee' and fancy breads and rolls contain more of course Granulated white sugar is the kind we usually add but brown sugar honey sorghum and molasses also give good results in fancy breads "Salt also affects the rising cf dough by slowing down the action of the yeast" suggests Miss Brady "This is one reason that some home-makers like to use a little more salt in the summer when warm weather tends to make the dough rise too quickly However the usual amount is one to one and one-half teaspoons of salt for each cup of liquid or pound of flour" To dress up baked potatoes: Use an apple corer to make 4 holes in each potato Stuff with
